From the Principal

Happy spring, Orca Community!

Spring is finally springing! I love the blooming trees around the school. Even when there is gray and drizzle, buds, and blossoms, and color are starting to pop and peek out everywhere I look. Spring is like that, isn't it?

In the dichotomy of spring, I am reminded of my commitment this year to find glimpses of joy regardless of the circumstances of the moment, place, or situation. It is important for me to slow down and experience the beauty, power and wonder whenever I can, wherever and whatever is happening.

We have joy in knowing we have a strong x̌alilc Orca community and our students are our first priority and focus as we we navigate our current and future reality. Thank you for your part and trusting us with your students, the most joyful parts of our days!

Finally, a special thank you to our PTO and all the volunteers who came and cleaned up our garden beds and prepared them for our school.  The garden beds look beautiful! We are excited about the opportunities for students to plant and watch things grow.

Enjoy some rest and rejuvenation next week during spring break!

Sincerely,
Rhonda Walton

Attendance Matters

Attendance Matters!

As the calendar turns to April, we know that many students and families are looking forward to a restful and refreshing spring break starting April 7th!

Despite recent challenges with weather and illness, our teachers, students, and families have remained dedicated to learning and staying engaged. We truly appreciate your continued partnership and commitment to our school community.

We look forward to finishing the school year strong as a learning community. Please continue encouraging your student(s) to attend school every day. If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance due to health or mental health reasons, please contact your student's school counselor or principal.

Every school day is a valuable opportunity for students to learn, grow, and connect with their peers and teachers.

Garden Clean Up: The spring garden clean up was a success! Thank you to the PTO and all of our Orca community members for showing up and getting your hands dirty!

Our garden beds are now ready for classroom activities and the Sprout Scouts after school club. We can't wait to see what grows this summer!

Keep your eyes peeled for the summer garden watering sign ups if you'd like to help keep our garden thriving through the warmest months.

Happy spring!

ABC Check-In

ABC Time!

21% of x̌alilc families have responded! Help us reach 100%. This annual process lets us know that your student(s) are returning to our schools for 2025-26 and allows parents/guardians to review annual information.

The ABCs must be completed* for all students attending BISD schools in 2025-26, including both new and returning students. Access the ABCs by logging into your Family Access account. It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete.

If you need assistance with the ABC process (such as translation, accessing technology, or other questions), please get in touch with [insert your contact information here].

NOT RETURNING? If your current K-11th grade student is not returning to BISD schools next fall, please email office manager, Sheila Jakubik, at sjakubik@bisd303.org.

*Student class placement/class schedules will not be released in August until the ABCs are completed. But why delay? Go ahead and take care of it today!
