Resource Room

The Resource Room program offers a range of child-centered in-class and out-of-class (pull-out) services and support for special education students in grades K-12. Resource rooms provide support individually and in small groups. Services depend on the student’s individual needs as outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP), and specially designed instruction (SDI) may be provided in reading, writing, math, social/emotional/behavioral, and organization skills. The Resource Room at each school is staffed with a full-time teacher and paraeducators, who work closely with each student’s classroom teachers and parents.


Learning Strategies: Resource Room Course at the Middle and High Level

Learning Strategies is a course at the middle school and high school level designed to provide specially designed instruction on IEP goals in reading, writing, math, social/emotional/behavioral, and organization skills, as outlined in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). The course is credit-bearing and includes other related lessons to address other parts of the IEP and transition plan. For example, lessons on self-advocacy, transition, and effective study strategies such as test taking, note taking, essay writing, communication skills, and organizational strategies. The goal of the Learning Strategies course is to teach students to become active participants in their educational program. Typically students enroll in Learning Strategies for one of their six periods and receive elective credit. In some cases, students may need more support, and that can be arranged as part of the IEP.
